Jump For The Rose 10th Annual Pinkfest Boogie
This year, Jump For The Rose Pinkfest Boogie at Skydive Spaceland Houston was joined by Parachutists over phorty! James Guido Davis organized the POPS Nationals event. Joseph L. Taylor and the Jumpers Over Seventy (JOS) knocked out a World Record, and Michael Swearingen brought his flock of wingsuiters to make a beautiful pink ribbon in the sky!
Jump For The Rose (JFTR) is a skydiving non-profit that raises funds to help breast cancer patients who don’t have insurance get help at The Rose, a non-profit breast cancer organization, Houston’s largest and oldest non-profit breast cancer facility. Marian Sparks started the charity after The Rose helped her when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and no insurance to pay them back. So far, JFTR has donated 228K to The Rose!
The weekend started out with setting up the booth. Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who showed up to help. Especially Gypsy Tanya, Angela Renée and Amanda Michie. Don’t know what we would have done without you ladies!
Next was the traditional pre-event dinner. Nonna Snowden Cooks whipped up a delicious swamp spread of baked cod in alfredo sauce, frog legs, Asian carp balls, alligator bites and more. All the volunteers, our online marketing director and website master, Wendy Tomko from Portland Oregon, Norman Kent, and the event organizers were there and had a great time. Joseph L. Taylor surprised everyone and showed as a zombie bag piper!
Next day, the Pinkfest Boogie was under way bright and early. Camille Ruper and the crew from Option Studios Inc. came the all the way from New Mexico to attend and help. It was great to finally meet them!
The featured raffle item was a beautiful handmade breast cancer ribbon quilt made by Suzanne Imus McLain. Performance Designs donated a gift certificate for a free PD Reserve Canopy. #LarsenandBrusgaard provided 4 great units. Skydive Egypt sent 3 gift certificates for their Jump Like A Pharaoh event in 2020. Other great sponsors were Spaceland Pro Shop, FlySight, #skydivewings, United Parachute Technologies, iFLY, #velocitysportsequipment, Vertical Suits and many more.
Thanks to the Jump For The Rose board of directors Leah Blache’, Ginger Snowden, Lyn Gwen Murillo, Robin RoboBot Williams, and the special supporters Cindy Guire and Luisa Sembera for working so hard to make the event a success.
Many thanks to Skydive Spaceland Houston for supporting the event with their great world class facility, lift power, and excellent staff!
JFTR provided a big bag of pink bras and everyone enjoyed jumping with them to show their support. Norman Kent got many great shots, especially the 5 way jump that he choreographed with Marian Sparks, James Guido Davis (Top Pop) and Marshall Madden. Also, on the jump were Greg Armstrong and Patie Pilates. Here’s a link to the pictures:
Jump For The Rose’s next event is scheduled for October 17 & 18, 2020 at Skydive Spaceland Houston in Rosharon, Texas. If you would like to plan a fundraising event for JFTR or volunteer please contact Marian at firstname.lastname@example.org and she will be glad to help!
